21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa
Found in the Appi Highlands in Iwate Prefecture, Appi Kogen Ski Resort is one of the top ski resorts in Tohoku. Offering powder snow and 21 wide, long ski courses, including groomed and ungroomed runs and mogul terrains, this ski resort is a winter sports haven for skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels. The ski courses are situated mainly along the slopes of Mt. Maemori (1305 meters), with two runs on the adjacent Mt. Nishimori (1328 meters). Observation points at the peaks of both mountains offer excellent views of the surrounding mountain range on clear days, in particular of Mt. Iwate and Mt. Hachimantai.
Other attractions include a snow park with rails and other obstacles for snowboarders to try out stunts and a family park with sleds, snow tubes and mini courses for children to enjoy the snow. A resort center is located at the foot of the slopes where rental equipment, shops, restaurants and a ski school are available.
By public transportation
Take the shuttle service bus for 55 minutes from Morioka Station to Appi. Or take the train JR Hanawa Line from Morioka to Appi Kogen Station. From there, take the free shuttle bus to the resort. By bullet train, the nearest station is Iwate Numakunai Station.
The resort is 12km from the Matsuo Hachimantai Interchange on the Tohoku Expressway.
